I've just aquired a Portege 7220, but i can't get it to recognise any extra memory. It's running on the 64 onbord MBs at the moment. I've tried both pc100 and 133 256 MB chips and it still stays at 64 for both.
I've tried updating the BIOS but the updates from toshiba don't work.... "BIOS file not continuous" "CRC Error". Their support is non existant and the nearest repair centre is 400 miles away.

Help!

Nice machine, I used to have a 7020CT and I think yours looks identical but has a faster cpu, higher internal RAM, more graphics RAM and a DVD reader on the docking station.

The 7020 max'd out at 196MB i.e. with 128MB additional RAM. So the 7220 may have a similar 128MB expansion slot limit and will therefore not like the 256MB you've stuck in.

Sorry I can't be of any more help.

The specs say it can take 320 max, and toshiba list a part number for a 256 upgrade kit, which this chip is the same spec as.

I recently had a problem upgrading the RAM on a Toshiba Sat Pro. I found out that the BIOS was set up to only recognise KIngston memory! (I was told this by the people at Crucial when their memory wouldn't work).

Don't know if this is connected with yours!
