I think AutoCad supports 3D drawing doesn't it? Digitising a car takes a long long time in any 3d package, the straight liners are easy but the curves take forever to get right.

The easiest way might be to purchase a commercial 3d model (Google should come up with a few sources).

Turning that Mini into 3-D will take a HUGE amount of time, even if you have the correct software and know exactly what you're doing.
I have to turn 2-D parts into 3-D, which is a lot of work, as each assembly has to be 'assembled'; with a car, I'm not sure, as you have to redraw all the panels, fittings, tyres etc. I think Rhino would be the best bet, but you have to learn how to use it first! (something I need to do also!)

Have a look here: www.3d-palace.com/video.php?vid=58

The above is a link to some videos on how to go about modelling a Lotus Elise using 3D Studio Max. Takes a lot of effort though.

I'm planning on doing one myself (of a S2 Elise) using the above tutorials as a guide on how to model. Should be fun, but I can see it's going to take me a long time to do it!

This tutorial set : www.3d-palace.com/video.php?vid=63 is also very good. This one is for modelling an Audi A3.

If you haven't got 3DS Max, then you might be able to do it in something similar if you know your way round it.

I can't see the picture (comes up with page error), but i have heard and seen a demo of the new plug-in for Flash.

Take a look at

www.macromedia.com/software/flash/extensions/swift3d/

If you are going to model something complex in 3D Studio Max, you are better off modelling it in Autocad or Mechanical Desktop then pulling it into MAX. Max imports Autocad objects using the same cartesian co-ordinates system and scales, so if you draw everyting true size it will fit perfectly in Max. I have done a few bits and pieces like this, a bit long winded but very satisfying.

As for a 3D drawing from a raster image, I don't know of any softawre that could amange that as it has no true dimensions to work from.

If you want to do it yourself, here is some info and inspiration:

www.rethinkfx.com/tutorials/cooper.htm

If you don't, here are some commercial models available for download (depending on what modelling software you decide to use):

www.xdyne.com/cgi-bin/2.0/3dcmpage.cgi?id=ausmini

www.3d02.com/3d_model_main.asp?id=322

www.3dcadbrowser.com/preview.aspx?ModelCode=5510 (available in AutoCAD format)

if you can get your hands on a copy of the Unreal Tournament 2k4 special edition DVD you will have a load of movies on how to model

But bear in mind that AutoCAD, 3DS MAX, 3DS Viz and all the other famcy software is not easy to use. If your a complete beginner you may need some training.

I used AutoCAD for 8 years, it takes a good while to get proficient with it.

All very well saying use Autocad but you really need some sort of solid modelling software, me I'd recommend Inventor or Solidworks, BUT that's if you're really serious about doing it. To create a 3D image from your print won't be as straight forward as you may think.

I thank you .......
