Well, all I can say is, my computer is royally f***ed.

I tried installing windows service pack 2 a couple of days ago for the second time. (the first time it disconnected my internet service) When I finished installing and restarted; my monitor packed up and wouldn't display anything. I managed to restore it to an earlier point but media player won't work and it refuses to install or uninstall any software and crashes randomly as well. It has also disabled my firewall for some reason. On top of all this it has wiped all my prior restore points so it looks like I'm stuck with what I've got.

Has anybody got any suggestions short of re-installing windows?

Any help no matter how small would be very greatly appreciated.

Cheers guys.

Bugger, I'm sorry this isn't very helpful but I think it might be re-install time.

You could try posting on overclockers.co.uk - there are some very, very techy people on there who might be able to help, particularly if you tell them everyone else has failed to fix it and they are your last resort.

Thanks anyway mate.

TBH I think re-installing is my only option. Haven't formatted once since I bought my PC three years ago.

In that case you should see a big performance increase on your machine if you reinstall.

Try installing PageDefrag - this will defrag your windows system files that usually cannot be defragmented since windows has them locked:
www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/pagedefrag.shtml

I've used it for about six months and it's superb. As a general rule anything from www.sysinternals.com tends to be very good.

Best of luck.

roadie.

When you do re-install, before you do the SP2 upgrade again, check that you have the latest BIOS for your motherboard. A lot of motherboards require a BIOS flash in order to be SP2 compatible.

This is of particular importance if you have a Prescott C-0 version of the Intel Celeron or Pentium 4 processor.
