I have been lumped with the task of creating a slideshow video for a friend and he needs it urgently - as in today!

All he needs is a couple of dozen pictures shown in sequence, with some staying on screen longer than others, basic transitions, but the ability to have text scrolling along the bottom of the screen throughout the whole thing. The final product needs to be saved as .mpg.

Anyone know any software that will allow me to do with easily? I have Premiere, but I think it's way to complex for what I want, I've never used it before and it looks a little daunting.

If you have Windows XP, will the built-in Windows Movie Maker do the trick?

I can't say I'm a frequent user, but when I have used it is is really quite good for a freebie.

Premier will do it, but as you say it is overkill, and will take you a day to learn it.

It's simply a matter of putting in/out points for each of the imported photos/slides and adding a text/sound/other track with a longer in/out to cover the whole length!

Thank for the help.

I gave up with Premiere and didn't realise that XP had it's own. I got hold of Ulead Visual Studio. Seems to have done the trick.
