I've just bought Samsung TS-H552U 16x16x DVD R/RW Internal IDE from E-Buyer. It was a good price, delivered promptly and in good order but without any enclosed driver. Not to be fazed, I perused the Samsung website to find the model not listed. I then contacted their help line who told me that they 'do not support the device'?

I'm obviously missing something, apart from the driver. Can anyone help?

Depending on your operating system you shouldn't actually need a driver....

Whenever I've put DVD or CD burners in any computer a driver has never been required, just software to do the burning for you.

Like Dobbo says. You don't need a driver. Very few drives ship with them these days. Just install and enjoy.

Thanks, gents. I've got Nero 6 but it doesn't seem to want to know.

Check if there's a Nero update for it. Nero only supports drives directly it seems and doesn't play with generic drives (which is a bit daft in my book).

You've also got to use the Nero that came with the drive in qustion.

sometimes you have to update the motherboard bios/drivers for certain devices to work.

Like robertuk says - if your copy of Nero came with another drive of any kind don't expect it to work with anything except that drive.

Your suggestion that Nero would not work with all drives seems correct.

I worked out what to do, though. My Samsung drive was recommended to me by a friend who pointed me in the right direction of a driver, so to speak. Problem solved.

It just didn't occur to me that my Nero could be that specific. Back to Easy CD Creator for me.

Regards, and thanks for all your help,

Derek

The full version of NERO supports lots of drives. The OEM version that come in the box with a drive will be crippled to support only that type of drive.

I've just bought Pinnacle Instant DVD at a computer fair. It has solved all my problems. Not bad for £6, plus, I suppose, the £2 entrance fee. Funny that. You can get into PC World for free so, when I was stopped at the door and told of the charge, I thought there was going to be something spectacular inside. Instead, all I got was a boot fair.
