Is ip possible to buy a lead so I can move the antenna thus leaving the box on the desk, but putting the antenna higher up?

Depends on where you have all your kit - If the wireless box is upstairs and you are connecting a laptop from downstairs then you do NOT want to place the ariel any higher than necessary - If anything the ariel needs placing downstairs if possible.

My problem is I like in a bungalow and it is long with solid walls.
I have my office one end which is wired to the router. My laptop I wish to use in the bedroom, so if I take the antenna up into the roof void and return it through the celing further towards the bedroom, my hope is it will give me wireless from there. Right?
Cheers

If you only want to be able to connect in one particular room, then get the Netgear ANT24D18 as listed on the link that AlunR kindly provided!

If you are looking at connecting from any room then get one of the omni directional antennas.

If you know anyone with an external antenna that you can borrow for testing purposes (or have a friendly shop that will allow you to test one out) then do that before investing.

Be aware that wireless networks can be VERY badly affected by buildings, walls etc. We have 2 of the ANT2405's in our office (1 is only 5m away from my laptop and the other is approx 15m away) and I can only connect to the 5m away one, the other connects/disconnects constantly!
