wireless network
Discussion
You could turn off your access point and then do a site survey, that ought to show whether there are any other networks in the area? You could be getting interference from something else on that frequency (cordless phone etc) so its worth changing channels anyway. (My WAP does this automatically but I don't know if they all so.)
I agree it could be interference, but it wont be from a cordless phone - they are in a different frequency band.

Try swapping 802.11b for 802.11g. The G has much greater range yet is still backward compatible with B.

Is this just a firmware or software upgrade ? Will try the other suggestions today, the signal strength goes from excellent to bug all ever few minutes?
Hardware upgrade I am afraid. I would suggest changing out your access point. Making it an 802.11G point will boost the signal.

Interesting. I'm aware that some wireless relays and most microwave ovens work in the 2.4GHz band, however the DECT standard for cordless phones calls for a different band. Older analogue cordless phones work in the HF band.
