Hi guys,

I am on the BT infinity package and I have a home gym in the garage.

I try and pickup music via youtube and so on and the signal is just piss poor. What do you guys use to improve the signal for Wifi?

Moving the router is a no-go due to needing it for a multitude of other tech whch are connected via a Cat5 cable.

Thanks

I use a couple of Netgear wifi extenders around the house that I bought from PC World, they do the job.

Stick a Ethernet over 240V in, one end next to router, other in garages, plug it into a WAP , done.

We have Infinity and use a wi-fi extender to run an ethernet cable to our YouView box.

If not that model it's a different version thereof. Would wholeheartedly recommend - setup is a total doddle, was up in running in all of 30 seconds and it's worked without fault since.

Our iPads, phones et al just auto-switch between our networks depending on which signal is stronger (these work on a separate network). The switch is seamless.

My phone (Sony Xperia Z2) really struggles to auto-switch to the extended network and i more often have to do it manually, which is a royal pain. Do i need to toggle something to make it more efficient in switching??

I bought one of these (http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/computing-accessories/networking/wifi-range-extenders/bt-610-wifi-range-extender-n600-dual-band-10137174-pdt.html) about 3 weeks ago. My router (Superhub 3) is in my living room. Signal in my bedroom and the back of the house and garden was really poor. I now get a good strong signal everywhere, much better than I thought I would get. I pout the extender in my bedroom.
It will work with all providers, it is dual band, it works well (for me anyway), and it is cheap.

That's what we use to boost the wireless in our extension, although we have a single combined home-plug and wireless hot-spot type:

Works well if you have decent quality mains wiring.

I'm not sure unfortunately, but would only say that I'm on an Android (Samsung Galaxy S6) so it's not an Android-wide issue.

It will hang on to the main signal as long as it can and generally will only switch to a stronger signal that's in the list of available known networks when the first one it connects to isnt there anymore

You can name both APs with the same SSID but it'll still take the first available one, I guess when you walk in the house. Option 3 is to Forget the main one and only have it connect to the EXT

My Wifi didn't reach to the garage.

Tried a Wifi Range extender upstairs on the back wall of the house nearest the garage. Connect to the main AP not problem.

Still couldn't connect with the iPad in the garage, signal too weak.

Moved the range extender to the garage and everything works brilliantly.

I assume that the antenna on the iPad is absolute rubbish, and it's dramatically better on a sale bin Aldi range extender.

Yup, major pita from time to time.

I won't ever give multiple AP the same SSID as it effectively removes your control. Once it connects to one it'll hold on to that one as long as possible.
Best way I found is to give multiple AP as little overlap as possible.

So A in this is often much worse than B.
