Get some anti-spyware stuff installed and rule that out first.
yahoo's own anti spyware seems to work pretty well for me.

Since I downloaded this my browser has been sooooooo sloooooow, any ideas? XP Pro by the way
i think sp2 automatically installs firewall and anti virus stuff so if this is enabled it will most likely slow things down. i run symantec so i disabled sp2's built in stuff. mind you, symantec slows things down like hell at times also - all part of the deep joy of the internet nowadays thanks to all the nerds creating viruses, etc!
I've avoided SP2 like the plague. It just seem to screw up peoples PC's more than fix any problems. I didn't have any problems, I run AV & hardware firewall and don't use Microsoft IE or Mail programs which seem to be the main things it addresses. So haven't and probably will not install it.
Caused absolutely no problems on the 3 PCs I have, or the office one, or any friends.
Anyone reasonably PC literate didn't particularly need it, as they were probably running Anti-virus/Anti-spyware/Firewall etc already. That said, it will eventually be a requirement.
SP2 is primarily intended to stop joe public PC user from turning they're broadband connected PC in to a spyware ridden, virus pushing spam relay. Consequently, it should eventually reduce the number of phone calls I get from friends and family wondering why they're PC is yet again broken.

Can SP2 be uninstalled?
Yes but not easily.
I dont think SP2 is the cause of your troubles though.
If you disable the Windows firewall breifly does it make any difference?
Do you have any other software firewalls installed?
There is erroneous chatiness over the requests I reckon, its just finding where...
Didn't really notice anything slowing me down after SP2,
I've disabled windows firewall/gfeneral protection etc
In addition to Firewall by McAfee Suite 6, every now and again I run freeInternetEraser and a random selection of any of the following spybot, adaware, CWShredder/Spysubtract, AntiVir XP, CCleaner, Anti Tracks etc, then clean up all the loose ends with a registry cleaner.
Coupled with defragging, I've not had too many problems with the 1g BT connection.

Another thought....
Clear your browser file cache.....
I've found if it's set to a big size and the disk is fragged then it is very slow with the disk access light on a lot.
If your disk access light is on a lot while browsing, then clear your browser cache, set the cache size to something sensible and do a defrag.
Clearing the browser cache before defragging is always a good move
