Brilliant stuff.
Anyone want to buy two original Squeezeboxes, one careful owner?

Is there a big difference between the new version and the old one? I've been a fan for a while but probably can't justify upgrading if it's only a new display.
Details on the website.
Main upgrades are;
- True 802.11g wireless
- Lossless compression (FLAC) support
- Audiophile-quality digital and analog outputs
- Enormous audio buffer
- Grayscale display with more than twice the resolution
- Pure-software audio decoding on a screaming fast processor
- Bridging, cross-fading, visualizers, and more...

Does that mean that the first version won't support AAC format files (from iTunes) but the new model will?
From the FAQ. Key word being "unprotected". That's Apple's fault, not Slimdevices. Hardware and software capable of playing them, Apple DRM preventing them from doing so.
"Yes. Unprotected AAC files (.m4a) that are created by iTunes can be played on Squeezebox2. Squeezebox2's hardware decoder supports MP3 and uncompressed formats for decoding. Under Mac OS X and Windows, SlimServer can uncompress AAC files and send th e raw audio to the Squeezebox2 on-the-fly.
For use on some wireless networks where there is not enough bandwidth to stream uncompressed audio, please refer to this FAQ entry.
Please note that music purchased from the iTunes Music Store ("Protected AAC" (.m4p) files) is encrypted and cannot be played back with Squeezebox2 until Apple provides the necessary hooks to enable this. In the meantime, it is possible to bu rn your iTunes Music Store songs to CD and re-rip them as unprotected .m4a files."

£150 seems a bit steep.
The Pinnacle ShowCentre is only £150 and that does video too.
Nice looking little thing though.
ShowCentre assumes you have a TV for control though doesn't it?
I think so.
Nothing would make me change from a Squeezebox as they're just so damn good at doing the job. Apart from that Sonos thing but that's a different matter now that Slimdevices have upped the ante a bit

It does, but fortunately I do.
Handy for upstairs I suppose.
Hmmmm
Could ressurect an old PC, don a fake beard and some sandals spend a couple of days installing linux and I would have the same thing...
But is that time worth more than £150.
Yes, probably.

Indeed it is.
You been checking your mail, Matt?
Got my Squeezebox 2 the other day.
Superb, a massive leap forward for them. Its faster, slicker, better display, definable cross-fading is cool (amongst other things you can now play mix albums properly by setting a very tiny cross fade and it eliminates the gap between tracks). Now running with the faster 54mbps 801.2g interface (which you can also use as a wireless bridge using the LAN socket on the back) and has Burr Brown A-to-D converters for even greater fidelity.
And you can change the display to show just two analogue VU meters.
