Her old radio has finally given up the ghost. I set up the swanky Roberts Dab radio she was given a couple of yrs ago, but she's struggling with the fiddly buttons and favorites menu.

What we really want is something easy to turn on/off a big volume knob (maybe combined with on/off) and a few big easy to see/use buttons to change channel.

Just like the radios of yesteryear, any suggestions?

Imo, I don't think that's happening anymore. Maybe a get a used one on ebay?

We've got one of these..

One knob turns it on and adjusts the volume, the other scrolls through stations.

We bought a Tesco cheapie. It's on the Tesco site as a DR1404G. Really simple with easy presets. Not the most stunning audio quality but spends its life in the bathroom. Mains and battery.

Thanks chaps, looking better. Still hoping to find something with pushbutton presets, she has difficulty scrolling, reading displays, and selecting.

Freeview/ Freesat channels. All the radio channels on menu on screen , via an on screen menu on TV.

Went through exactly the same. I got my old Mum this Roberts Eco 4, has preset buttons, a big volume knob, on/off button. She gets on with it well, it's big and clunky.

Also looked at this Sony which has simpler controls, she didn't want red.

Thanks, that Sony jobbie looks ideal. clap

I'll give her a few days after setting up her other radio, just to see if she can cope though.

My Mum does have the Sony as well, a 'beech' one, she uses this in the lounge. They used to make the Sony in black, silver, beech and red. I could only find the red version, so she opted for the Roberts Eco 4 which she uses in the kitchen. These where the only radios I could find with preset buttons.

She only listens to Classic FM and Radio 4, so two presets would be enough!

Roberts radios always were pricey but lasted longer than most. Have a look at some of these, made in the 70s and still working well: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_nkw...

Look up prices for any disability related kit, par for the course smile Some can get VAT relief at least, and it's what the benefits are there for.

The bath cushion I have? that'll be 500 quid.

7 grand between 2 wheelchairs is a choice (worth making), but you want a pair of new coloured neoprene frame protectors?? 36 quid. SOMEONE left a side plate on the car roof and you need a new one (this has happened four times biggrin) ? 50 quid.

Each region has a wheelchair voucher scheme which helps a bit, and things like seat pads even high end you can get free as they have ~18 month life.

The other Roberts radio linked above is £90, the Roberts targeting visually impaired is £175.

This is the one I'd buy: push button on/off and 1 LW, 1 MW + 4 FM pre-sets.
