Ok - Can I do this. I have a domain that I want to keep registered with the current registrar for commerical reasons but want to use another registrars hosting services because they are better. So question is - is it really just a matter of changing the DNS setting on the domian to the new hosting DNS setting.

AND!!! To make matters more complicated we want to keep the original mail server settings and keep the email as it is - can we do that???

Yes.

...I'm sorry did you want instructions?

You just make sure that your NEW DNS entries match your OLD. Pay particular attention to A (HOST) records, any CNAME (Alias) records and ESPECIALLY MX (Mail Exchange) records. You may also want to make sure that your reverse PTR records are correct.

AFTER you do that, then go into the registrar and change the DNS name servers.

Good luck!

if you are moving the hosting, but JUST wanting to keep the MX the same, then simply request the new host edit their DNS zone to reflect the MX that you want, this shouldnt be an issue for any host to accomodate.

The A records for the main hosting shouldnt need to be the same as your current records if you are moving your hosting, only the MX and A for the Mail. record will need to be modified from your new hosts 'standard' setup.

Enjoy

Cheers Jamie, nothing to do with R1 on this occasion - an old legacy thing that is more bother than it's worth!

Cheers
