I have one of these. Does anyone know if it is technically possible to connect it to two machines at once and reading/writing data to it at the same time?

Is this dependent on the chip the IDE-1394/USB bridge uses?

I've once had it connected to two computers at the same time, and read/write from both machines on it, however, I can't remember if the disk was mounted to both file systems at the same time, since I didn't connect it intentionally to test same-time-operation...

Shirley the drive would only let one of the connections be "live" at a time? Even if not, it'd be asking for trouble, I'd say.

whenever I have tried with my disks, it will connect to both, but only be seen / accessable by the device plugged in last.

IE, plug it in via USB to laptop 1, laptop1 sees it, THEN plug it in via FW to laptop 2, lapopt2 sees it, laptop 1 drops it.

HTH.

Why not just buy the Linksys NAS dongle thingy and put it on your LAN?

Cheers, Gentlemen!

Ernest, a NAS is a neat solution, but I was just curious about the function of that controller for geek reasons
