Is there any way I can boost the signal for the wireless network in my house.
I live in a 3 story victorian house which had Extremely thick walls.

I can only get a signal through the floors & ceiling's.

Cheers in advance

As above...

Better/different antennas appear to be the to go. Don't forget you might need one at each end of the link?

I'm assuming you've tried moving the existing kit around a bit? Some times even moving it a few inches can make a huge difference to the signal quality.

Also have you tried different orientations of the aeriel on the AP and PC? That might make a difference too.

Some APs also let you change the power setting it runs on, and it's also worth trying different channel numbers before paying out cash for new hardware. So if you are currently running on Channel 6, try 1 and 12 etc.

DIY omni details here with some impressive claims.

If your AP doesn't have detachable antenna socket then you may have to put in another AP and use roaming.

Have you considered repeaters?

Little wireless gadgets that you plug in and configure to extend the range of your network. Think of them like relay stations.

Something like this:

(I actually have a 900AP+ I'm not using any more too (moved house, don't need it).

Turns out all that was needed was 2 new network cards.
Didn't even need to change the modem, shows how much they have come on in a year.

Cheers for the replies
