In the last couple of hours my firewall is working overtime.
50 odd alerts from various places trying my ports

Who are you & what do you want??

Anybody had a load of these today??

Gonna start turning the dialog pop up box off.

Get a hardware firewall and be bothered no more.

I've come to take it as part and parcel of having broadband.

Its unlikely anything can get through its just kids chancing their arm.

I had it recently, where an ip within BT somewhere was bombarding my software firewall on all the common ports (i.e. where trojans and the like attack). In the end I emailed BT themselves and within an hour was aksed for the log and 2 hours after that was told it had been dealt with and should I have any future trouble to let them know.

So far so good

Lots of hardware firewalls (routers) to pick from... personally like Buffalo but their config GUIs are not very newbie-friendly. Linksys and Netgear get good write-ups, as do 3Com and DrayTech (but both expensive).

Just turn off the alerts in ZA, you're still protected. IMHO it's not worth the expense of a hardware firewall for a single PC.
