How do you save the current picture on your monitor as an image file?
ctrl and 'print screen' together(ctrl held down first, keep finger on it while pressing print screen next)then open up Microsoft 'Paint'(start-programs-accessories) then 'edit' then 'paste',then go to 'File' then 'save as'

Also Alt-PrintScrn will grab just your currently active window.

You don't need the ctrl.
Print Screen on its own gets you everything.
(And as has been said, alt gets you just the current window)
