Had another interesting one last night…

Put in the XP CD… booted… added SATA drivers… then got "Windows cannot tell what type of PC you have" (or word to that effect!!!).

It then gave two options; one saying "486c" (or was it "i486"?)… and "other".

Selected "other" and it asked for the manufacturers disk…. pressed back, and then took the 486 option.

PC has built OK, but spotted that the the processor isn't listed in Device Manager… wonder if this could be to do with the Hyperthreading of the P4…?

Thoughts..?

My PC doesn't have a problem with the HT processor. Is it a well known mobo brand?

i386?

Its lacking the mobo drivers which tell the installer what XP is being installed on.

I think.

Not sure it wasn't "i386"... but think it might not have been

Will get the opportunity to have another look tonight, so I can see some photography coming

Installed all relevant drivers post-installation...
