Capturing an image from Media Player
Discussion
I think Windows Movie Maker allows you to do this.
Failing that, there are screen capture apps available.

I have a media file which I watch via media player.
What I am wanting to do is basically pause the movie at any given point & save the screen as a photo file so as I can use it as a background or post it on here, etc, etc.
Any ideas ?
It's always worked for me by pressing [alt] + [print screen] together... Presto:

Just Print Screen on its own will get you the entire desktop, ALT+Print Screen gets the window with focus.
Tried this the other day, and it wouldn't capture media player. Pasted it into PSP and where the video would have been was the video that was still playing in the window behind. Most odd.
That doesn't always work, as some graphics card display the video on an overlay, which Windows doesn't usually grab.
If you find it isnt capturing properly, in Media Player go to Tools > Options > Performance and set Video Acceleration to 'None'. This forces Windows to render it in software to the main display port. From then on Prt Scr, or PSP's screengrab etc should work fine.

If you actually HAVE the media file AND it's wmv, you can open it in Movie Maker and extract photos from there as well...
