Cookies, websites and deleted history
Discussion
I recently visited a website, for purely educational purposes mind, whilst my girlfriend was away.
I subsequently deleted my web history in all ways possible including deleting my Norton Firewall web logs – understanding the Norton logs have nothing to do with the internet browser.
Anyhow, to cut a long story short, the web address has been deleted from my history however for some reason it still comes on the address bar. Example
Let's say I visited was www.bmw.com each time I type in www.b the laptop for some reason automatically brings up the address www.bmw.com/m3
This only happens for this particular site and one particular page – very strange
Clearly my other half as a Mercedes fan would not be best pleased if she finds out I've been checking out BMW's!
Does anyone know how can delete this what ever it is?
Internet Explorer
Tools, Options.
Clear History.
Delete Files.
Delete Cookies.
Close Internet Explorer.
Do it three times or so. Eventually this will go.
If you have the Norton Utilities you could also do a "web cleanup".
If, after this, it has not gone you are into registry editing...which has its own dangers.

it's also very effective when my girlfriend doesn't want me to know she's been looking at girl on girl porno action whilst i'm away ...
its amsuing when people ask for help hiding the fact they've been looking at porn on a public forum

Not sure - did you type it directly into the address bar, rather than getting to it via a link? I think it only stores typed urls. It only keeps them for a certain length of time, I think, so if it's the only thing you've typed recently that could explain it.
index.dat does store pretty much everything you've ever done on the net and it can't be deleted or cleaned other than with specialist software (there are free trials available for emergencies though). On the bright side, it can't be read either, so it ought at least to be girlfriend-proof.

all the more reason to learn a different browser to the one GF uses then doesnt matter
or and the easiest and most fun option is to surf the BMW sites with your girl, more than likely she could be curious of a little drive in one of them anyway, i hear some of them are actually rather good if you can get over being called a W*nker ;-)

I think you actually need to right click on the task bar at the bottom of your desktop then choose "properties->Advanced". here you have an option
"To remove records of recently accessed documents, programs, and websites, click Clear".
And that should do it.
Depends on the OS, I think - all I get on XP Pro is the option to clear the recent documents list. One or the other (or both) should do it, anyway.

As for porn – who mentioned that?
IE Privacy Keeper should help you out btw. Does everything you need of it.
