This has to be the best Microsoft error I’ve seen yet:

I have visions of this folder sitting there and very thoughtfully thinking “Hmm… should I accept this file or not?”

Many years ago a friend was trying to run an early version of PhotoShop on maybe a 486 with not much RAM.

Aftre much grinding a message appeared which said: 'Cannot.... because.....' and died.

The best error message I had was just after clicking on Cancel.

"Your Failure has been a Success!"

By far the best error i've got out of windows is:

Cannot copy file as the file exists.

I should bloody well hope it exists, i'm trying to copy it.

I love the old insufficient memory error on some of the ancient software... Even when you are running with 1GB+

Smacks of "Oh bugger, I don't know what's wrong, let's just pass the buck"

If the application is ANSI the path may still be limited to 256 chars.

If the programmer of whatever application failed was using unicode, then each path bracket must be less than 256 unicode chars, the whole path must be less than about 32,000 unicode chars.

Edited to add;

This doesn't stop you creating and using paths that have an absolute depth greater than this, it's just if you treat them absolutely they'll not work.

Try concatenating relative paths.

Once found an error message in a RISC OS (yes, really!) application that read "Not combat capable".

Never did figure out what triggered it...
