£9.99 512k unlimited broadband & other offers....
Discussion
UK Online (who sponsor Pistonheads.tv) can offer pistonheads.com subscribers amazing broadband packages.
If you are lucky enough to be in the 4.5million homes that are served by UKOnline's own broadband infrastructure you can obtain
512k unlimited broadband @ £9.99 per month (Free modem and £25 activation fee)
2Mbps unlimited broadband @ £19.99 per month (Free modem and £25 activation fee)
8Mbps broadband @ £29.99 per month (Free wifi router and £50 activation fee, 500Gbytes/Month limit)
These accounts are ideal for browsing the web and downloading the latest videos.
Outside of these areas, UKOnline has to use the BT product, and so prices are unfortunatly a bit higher and no 8Mbps version is available.
Customers interested in UK Online’s Broadband can check availability or register their interest or place an order at ukonline.net.
Finally, if that wasn't good enough, you can obtain 1 month's free broadband if you recommend the service to another user, as well as the person you recommend the service to gaining a month free as well. Find 12 PH friends to buy the service and you can have broadband free for a whole year!
Details on the recommend a friend scheme are here

Joust,
I am currently very happy with my 2mb broadband connection through bt (I was an early subscriber in this area I did not want isp roadband provider issues and my work pays for it so expense is not an issue, and support has not let me down so far...), however I would really be interested in the timescale you envisage for the 8mb sort of service in the lower outlands (between Cardiff and Swansea), how long do you think a. any provider, b. your company wil be able to provide?
Cheers
Paul

Joust,
Forgive me if I am being thick, but what is the difference between these two? (You may have to speak slowly as I am not very familiar with BroadBand.)
Also, if I was planning to move house in the next 2 months, could I take such an account with me?
Oli.

Then difference is that the 1st line doesn't contain a typo in the price...

Essentially the second one is 4 times faster than the first.
Yay, been keeping an eye out for the 8MB going live in my area and looks to be available now - as soon as I can shake of Tiscali I will signing up.
Joust, just a note, I did register on site a few months ago to be notified when service was available to me but only found out by logging in and trying again the other day, never did get an email; not dig in anyway just thought you should know in case other people are sitting back waiting for an email.
Cheers S.

As Easynet (the company that provides the network for UKOnline) is a "commercial" company I have to be honest and say that exchanges in areas such as that are very unattractive and it's highly unlikely Easynet would make any money by "unbundling" that exchange, and as that's the case, those pesky things such as shareholders and the need to run a profitable business mean that it's unlikely they will ever come that way.
However, you could move service provider. A lot of the service issues aren't the "DSLAM" bit, they are the network that connects the customer to the Internet. Also, a lot of it is to do with the 'skill' of the customer service and technical people in the call centre to help you when problems arise.
As the oldest consumer ISP (10+ years old), UKOnline has constantly won awards for customer satisfaction. Why not give their "BT" service a try?

Go to www.ukonline.net/broadband/ and click on "Broadband Speed Demonstration" for a layperson's view of the difference in speed.
zcacogp said:Check that the place you are moving too supports the same type of broadband by using the checker. If it does, then you'll just have to pay the activation fee again (although if you already have broadband it may be easier to wait the 2 months as it's a real faff to move the broadband at the same time you move house).

Prof Higgins said:Thanks. There is an automated system that's meant to do that, I'll give the people at UKOL a "poke" to see what's going on as it's a bit of a waste of time registering if we don't email you!

The only caveat to that is a whole load went live on Friday which probably won't get the email until next week, if you could email me the name and phone number you registered I could see if that was the case.
Thanks for the feedback - always useful!

On another note Mr Joust.
Sigh.
Another reason not to live in the sticks, we only got BT to upgrade our exchange recently so me thinks Easynet won't be changing
Are there any thoughts of re-pricing the 2mbps lines now that BT themselves are able to lower their prices (albeit at the expensive of a bandwidth cap)?

At £29.99 for unlimited 2Mbps it's a cracking deal even if I do say so myself, and remember you get a nice UK 7x24 call centre. 4 out of 5 of UKOL customers would "recommend the service to a friend" - not bad in this day of lack of customer service!

Joust is it really just London and the South East that get the 8 meg at £29.99? I ask as here in Birmingham I don't seem to be able to get it. However I will be moving to Essex in a few weeks and will be needing a new BBand provider down there.
8 meg at that price is VERY appealing as I'm paying just shy of that for 512 at the moment (is due to be upgraded to 1Meg at some point this year!)
I don't have a postcode to check yet but am trying to see whether it will be possible. Likely to be Brentwood/Chelmsford/Colchester however.
Cheers in advance

Easynet's DSL network covers most major metropolitan areas, including lots of Brum, Manchester, Glasgow etc. etc.
A few exchanges Essex way are available.
If you know the name of the exchange that you are moving to, you can check if it's an Easynet enabled one by going to
www.samknows.com/broadband/llu-league.php?type=en
By the end of this month/early next, any exchange that is on the Easynet list will be able to offer the UKOL service.
Hope that helps.
