Sat Nav Software for a phone
Discussion
I have an M1000 (Orange) pda phone. I am keen to have a sat nav device; either a car radio/Sat Nav or portable sat nav device i.e. Tom Tom.
However, since I have a pda phone I wondered if anyone would tell me what can be done with it (in terms of software etc) so that it can be used as a sat nav device. Secondly, are these pda phones loud enough in a the car (i.e. a TVR)? Aren't there unnecessary wires to cope with?
Please can anyone tell me what I have to do to make it work and rough costs etc?
Cheers

All the info you need. You'll be wanting a copy of Tom Tom 3, a decent memory card and a GPS reciever (bluetooth or wired).
Could also use one of these are your GPS reciever:

And add the speed cam database to Tom Tom - double protection.

I'm running an XDAIIi with tomtom 3 and a syson blue tooth gps receiver with windscreen mounted holder/charger.
You will need the following:-
1 x PDA/smart phone
1 x tomtom 3 software GB maps (others are available)
1 x SD card (min 128Mb - make sure that the card is not made in China as there are performance differences in reading the card and they tend not to be fast enough. Make sure that it's either made in Japan or Taiwan. Check out www.pocketgps.co.uk forums for more details on which SD cards to buy and avoid)
1 x GPS receiver (Mine is bluetooth, but you can use wired as well. It's better to spend the money on a good receiver as it will aquire sat lock faster and loose it less often)
1 x in car charger for PDA (plus either a Y-splitter or an other charger for your bluetooth GPS Receiver - generally the bluetooth GPS will come with a in car charger)
1 x POI software for speedcamera data (available for free from www.pocketgps.co.uk/uksafetycameras.php and other Points Of Interest.
1 x mount for PDA
Be aware of using a gps receiver in a Renault - the anti UV coating on the windscreen causes the sat signal to degrade and you need to use a re-radiating antenna to overcome this problem.
