Hi folks

Forgive me for being a complete dullard, but can anyone recommend some decent wireless networked speakers?

Essentially, I want to be able to play music from my Spotify account on my iPhone or laptop to 2 or 3 speakers located in different parts of my house at the same time.

I don’t want to spend £’000’s - if I can get a decent set up for a couple of hundred, that would be ideal.

I've a pair of Bose sound touch 10 speakers which do what you require. Think you can get two for £250.

They are terrible quality for listening to music - basic Sonos setup, Denon Heos, a few Bose would be the best bet. All similar in terms of sound quality and cost.

Its extremely subjective and also depends on the quality of the OPs hearing and acoustic range plus the genre of music and volumes as well (plus the surroundings etc...) - I don’t argue there are better quality out there but for bang for buck for a truly integrated networked smart speaker it’s hard to beat

Subjective - sure. I have a google home mini. I use it to talk to. Then I have a variety of other speakers that actually have any semblance of sound quality. OP mentioned spending a few hundred, this suggests that he wouldn't be happen with 90s PC speaker quality, which is basically what google home is. I agree entirely it is hard to beat if you include the other functionality, but that requirement wasn't mentioned.

I have a Bose Sound Dock currently, which I’ve adapted to connect via Bluetooth. It has a pretty good sound and I wouldn’t want to get any worse than that

Do you have existing speakers/hifi units?

In which case, Chromecast Audio or equivalent.

Use the above suggestion of a Google home mini which can default to play music through your Sound Dock via BT. Best of both worlds and £34 outlay

Either that or a Chromecast audio connected to the line in would be my choice if you're happy with the Bose.

The CCA would be better IMO as Bluetooth isn't great for sound quality. I use both methods, I have 2 CCA connected to decent HiFi systems downstairs then use a GHM with a portable BT speaker upstairs.

How about some Yamaha MusicCast speakers? Portable, fairly cheap and you can cast music from your phone using the app (and Spotify) on your network. I don't know about the sound quality as I've not tried them but I use MusicCast from my phone to my Yamaha amp and it's great. http://exceptional-av.co.uk/yamaha-wx-010-musiccas...

At that price, you can pick one up then add as many as you want come pay day for each room.

Sonos. Play 1s work great particularly with a few of them in a larger room - gets you music everywhere without needing to be loud enough to be overpowering.

If you've got existing hifi you want to enable, pick up an old Sonos ZP80 or 90 on ebay - despite being over a decade old, my ZP80 is still going nicely and gets all the software updates.

I'm liking the Amazon echos. Now you can pair rooms I can play my lounge off an echo dot and through TV sound system and the other rooms have an echo in.

Added bonus is I don't need my phone I can tell it what to play and volume etc

Sound isn't great for a party but seem good enough for general listening....might be an idea.

With the Chromecast audio, can I just plug it into the headphone port of the speakers (Sound Dock and Cambridge Audio)? Can Inthen just cast must to each device simultaneously from Spotify on my iPhone?

Line in not headphone port but yes you can.

In the Google home app you can create groups of your various devices (CCA and also Google home speakers can be in a group) and either choose a single device or one of your groups when you click cast.

have a look at the Teenage engineering OD11
spotify connectivity is built in so the device you are seeing spotify on is just a controller which means that its battery doesnt deplete so much.
You can also connect with bluetooth or toslink to a dvd or cd player.

cracking sound and looks great
