Been a few years since I dabbled and some decent ones on the market now especially with raspberry pi and arduino.

Any recommendations for all in the bag type projects online. Looking for both non programming type and arduino type projects.

I have a few audio based projects lined up but pretty open minded to learn more electronic knowledge.

Not so long ago, the problem was that there were no resources for this sort of thing. Nowadays the problem is that there's almost too much!

Have a look at the kits and projects here https://shop.pimoroni.com/

I was having similar thoughts last year but couldn't think of a useful project.

Ended up getting a build your own 3D printer kit and it's been great fun. You can do it completely DIY and source all your own parts or do what I did and buy a cheap kit off eBay and modify it as you go.

The main control boards are generally arduino based so you can get into the firmware and coding side of it too.

The other thing is they're really handy to have for future electronics projects for making brackets / enclosures / parts etc.

There's a thread going in the computers and gadgets forum.

As this is an automotive forum, what about something CAN based for your car? Like a little display for coolant temperature, engine RPM etc.

Buy a couple of power supply kits of Ebay - they're easy to assemble and it's always a good place to start (power supply).

Just a simple 15v regulator or similar.

There are plenty of really good value Chinese kits on Ebay.

Plenty of poor ones as well! Quite a lot of the cheaper kits come with no documentation, often not even a schematic so pretty useless for a beginner unless they can find enough info online.

EEVBlog is a useful place both for beginners and the more experienced.

Agreed, there are a load of poor ones - but usually the ones where there is a schematic pictured in the listing are good - however - with amplifiers the diagram is often deliberately wrong! Additionally. some Chinese Ebay vendors state that a schematic can be obtained on request.

Either way - for the price of Chinese kits - you can't even buy half of the parts for the same money, let alone get a decent PCB!

Another good source of kits is Velleman - although they can be a bit pricey, but they also do some nice USB stuff which is good to experiment with.
