MS Small Business Server upgrade questions
Discussion
Hi, I hope somebody can help us with a few SBS questions.
We are currently running SBS 4.5 with four workstations. We need to have SQL Server 2000 (which I’m told won’t run on NT) for some new software. So our plan is to upgrade the whole thing to SBS 2003 Premium.
My questions are:
What’s the cheapest way to do this? Is it possible to buy an upgrade pack from SBS 4.5 to SBS 2003 Premium, or do we have to buy the full SBS 2003 Premium package?
We intend to buy a new Server as well so we can do a parallel integration rather than try to re-install on our current server and have loads of downtime if we hit problems. Would it be cheaper/possible to buy a new server with SBS 2003 Premium already installed?
Will our current NT Workstations with Outlook 2000 work with Windows 2003 Server, or do we need to upgrade them as well?
Many thanks for any answers.
TSS

Yep, you can buy the version upgrade (T75-00037). Misco have it for £390 plus VAT.

Don't think you will find a server already configured with the version upgrade. You'll certainly find a server with the full version installed though; Dell have an offer on currently for a PowerEdge SC420, *including* SBS Standard for £549 (extra £411 for Premium).
You do have to do the upgrade to a new server though. You can't upgrade from 4.5 in situ. Here's a Word document from Microsoft that explains the procedure.

They'll work fine.
Cheers.
