Has anyone any experience of Laptops Direct and their refurbished mobile phones please?

They have many phones showing as "pristine", I guess DSR applies if something turns up and isn't as described but it would be good to get some kind of understanding if "pristine" really does mean "indistinguishable from an new one"?

I've never bought from them, but they have a pretty mixed bag of reviews. I'm also interested; need to replace my youngest's phone; she's nearly 16 and struggling with my old 4GS and a battery life measured in minutes.

Can anybody recommend somewhere in the UK for refurbished iPhones? I'm after something like a 6S for up to £300, but far more interested in the after sales if things don't go to plan. Or is it madness to be even considering an older iPhone, given Apple's aggressively built-in obsolescence?

Bought laptops off them - about 6 so far, and they have always been fine. But we haven't had any warranty claims, and we've never bought phones, so only limited help I'm afraid.

Going somewhere like your local CEX is your best bet. I was looking for a 6S a few months ago when I bent & broke my original 6 and was hoping to get a used 6/6S for around £250 as the 8 and X had already been out a while so prices for the 6 should be reasonable. Nope; looks like even older iphones retain their value; even struggled to find a 5/SE for £250. CEX had the closest prices and at least you can view the device before purchasing it.

Ended up with a new 8 fwiw.

Make sure to cross-reference prices.

For example, they have a Blackberry KeyOne (black model), which I'm after. It's refurbed, and for sale at £449.

But a brand new one is available from Currys, and CPW, for £399.

hmmmm
Depends very much as does most things on branch attitude/ staff attitude
Know of one person who had a phone from there that lasted a fortnight then was mysteriously barred the staff gave her considerable run round. It was resolved but took a few days and they weren't for refunding (though she stood her ground and did get refund to card)
In the end she bought new.

That is just a ridiculous statement. Show me a single phone that performs to as high standard 2/3 years down the line as any Iphone and I'll eat my hat.

My Iphone is 5 years old, is on the latest Ios and still works perfectly smoothly. The battery life is slipping but you can have no complaint about that.

I bought a Pixel 2 off Appliances Direct, which I think is the same company, a couple of weeks ago. For £250, sold in "Grade B" condition. I bought via eBay and paid with CC for added protection (in theory).

I was impressed that it was delivered within two days of ordering by courier, even though I didn't pay for expedited delivery. The phone was as described with only two light scratches to the rear and a slight crease to the earpiece fabric. Despite the description saying I'd receive the handset only, I received it in the original box complete with all accessories. I was very pleased with it, especially considering new Pixel 2s are £500 new.

Unfortunately my phone developed a fault a couple of days later. The screen was stuck on showing a grainy image akin to a TV without a signal. I contacted both Appliances Direct and Google in parallel. Google offered to replace the handset, so I returned it to them without the accessories (as instructed) and two days later I had a replacement Pixel 2 in my hand, this time in a sealed box with all accessories. Excellent service from Google.

I just bought a couple of HTC Ones from these guys on eBay https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/modaphones?_trksid=p204...

You'll probably know that there aren't many mobile phone suppliers with 100% feedback on such a large number of trades. These guys do and it's perfectly warranted. The phones were as new and I needed delivery about 4 days after they would normally have delivered. They acknowledged my request and delivered on the day I had asked; a Saturday.

Brilliant service and highly recommended from me.

I bought a Laptop from Laptops Direct a couple of years ago. It wouldn't boot up and nobody is available at weekends. It arrived late on Friday so I was screwed till Monday. Somebody did contact me on Monday to say that if a re-seat the RAM (it had extra as part of the deal) it should be fine. It was to an extent. Now it boots up OK, at any time that suits it, even if you don't press the start button. I lost the will to keep at them after that and live with the random starting issue.

If you can forgo Apple there are some really smart android phones out there for £200 or so.
Moto g5s
Huwaei p8 lite
Nokia 5/6
