Help Please: Online Advertising!

Following up on my previous post asking for advice on finding contractors without going through an agency it seems like advertising is the only way forward, unless someone can suggest something?

I haven't advertised online before so what is the best way to go about it? Should I got direct to sites like Slashdot, etc. or should I use a broker? If the former, what sites would you recommend that would reach my UK contractor audience? In the case of the latter, any recommendations for good companies?

Also, what sort of prices should I be looking at?
