Can anyone help me out here please? Our IT support has been cut and it's difficult to get answers from them.
We have a mailbox size of 100 meg, so almost everything has to be stuck straight in to archive. Trouble is that I work offsite mostly, and can only access my archive when I'm on the network, which is a PITA.
Is there an easy way (IT numpty here) that I can duplicate my archive on my hard drive?

Have you got the full Groupwise client on your remote machine and do you have VPN access?
Groupwise communicates on port 1677, so IT could forward the port (If they don't already)
Groupwise has settings on the full client as to where the archive is. You could probably set it up in one of two ways. Burn your archive to CD and copy to the same path on your own machine (less than ideal!), or put the archive on a network drive and access the data inside a VPN.
Technobabble I know, but it can defo be done!

rude girl said:VPN is Virtual Private Network, essentially a secure way of transmitting data from your pc over the Internet to another network (i.e. from my PC here I can use VPN to get into the Uni network and access my files etc).
Oh Sh!t, I don't know what most of those words mean.
VPN - is that similar to VPL?
OMG, I'm in over my head and the bubbles are slowing down......
When you're not "on the network", how are you accessing your account? Using the WebAccess (browser) client, from a laptop?
You could get some software like Nexic Publisher ( www.nexic.com/publisher/ ) which lets you convert the archives into other (readable) formats so you can view them without groupwise. However it's not much good if you need to juggle items in and out of archive rather than just look at them.
A cheaper option I've just found but not used myself is GW Mail Saver ( www.novell.com/coolsolutions/tools/2000.html ) which can export emails and their attachments - again, you can keep the contents of your older stuff with you away from the office.
The other option is to remove attachments but keep the emails - 100Mb can accommodate tens of thousands of messages without attachments. There's a tool called GW Strip ( www.novell.com/coolsolutions/tools/1532.html ) which can remove the attachment but keep the rest of the message.
Or, as said, if you're offsite but using the proper Groupwise client, just copy your archive next time you're at base and put it on the PC you use offsite.

Thanks All for your time and help.
I'm glad I admitted to being a numpty - in the end I took the thread to our IT support boys who were fantastic (as usual). I'm not quite sorted yet, but we discussed exactly what I need to be able to access off site and I they're sorting me out with a solution
