When I go on certain websites, I get another web site appearing from knowhere, which didn't used to happen a week ago. Its not linked in anyway..it just seems to be hidden. As soon as I open the page, it appears. How can I get rid of it. I've run Spybot, Regclean and run AVG, but know luck. Any ideas. Thanks.

if running XP look in task manager and see which processes are running ,search on google for the process if you are not sure ,also check startup to make sure nothing is being loaded there

also look in MSconfig for startup applications ,

there seems to be a few of these around at the moment and they are getting harder to stop

Its being thrown by the website, not your computer.

Download and install the Google Toolbar.

In addition to being bloody handy its got up a pop up killer.

Oh and you'll go blind...

I'm on windows ME

If I do a search, I find it in the cookies, but if I delete it...it still comes back the next time I go on the particular site.

I do have pop up blocker on as well, but I have it switched off as it interfiers with other things.

Hmmm... Have you thought about trying the Google toolbar? It seems to do a good job of stopping pop-ups and all manner of unwanted items. It also gives the option of temporarily allowing pop-ups (for a given site - usually the current one) to appear or allowing the pop-ups to "always be allowed" (for the current site, i.e. site specific once again). So you can tailor it to your needs, initially I was a bit hesitant in using it, but it seems to work quite well.

Oops, just re-read the thread (thought I had done earlier on!!) this concurs with Plotloss suggested.

hth!

Have you ever tried FireFox. It really is good and stops all of these problems.

Here is a recent article on FireFox.

Sounds like you've picked up the Trojan.vundo.B virus from a webpage you've visited. It's not a malicious virus but launches IE to an advertising page.

Try the removal tool on this link www.sarc.com/avcenter/venc/data/trojan.vundo.b.html - it's ok for Windows ME

It didn't work on several tries on my laptop so I had to start the computer in safe mode and then run the tool. Then it worked perfectly.
