I am running both Spybot and Adaware personnal, and regularly update them.

Yet when I run them every day, they keep finding new Spyware in my machine, succesfully delete them, but new ones keep poping up.

I am not installing any dodgy software, where do they come from ?

Should the Immunize function of Spybot not prevent them coming back ?

Should I run a 3rd andtispyware package ? Which would you recommand?

Thanks

are you running them in safe mode?

safe mode ?

Not too sure.

I think one of the problem is that I am using my laptop at home and office LAN, at home I don't have a firewall.

I am thinking of using Zonalarm when at home, but can I disable it when connecting to the office LAN since we already have a firewall ? Don't want to screw up the office set up.

Just ran Xoftspy as well after downloading free version, it detects loads of stuff Adaware and Spybot did not pick up, like basic spyware like AdRoar.

Are Adaware and Spybot that shite ? What is safe mode ?

I use ZoneAlarm exactly like that. In fact I don't disable it even when attached to the office network. Keep it simple.

The prevention is always better than the cure so what sort of protection do you have in terms of Firewall and Anti-Virus?

Easily the best anti-spyware program is Spysweeper which you can download and use on a 30 day trial and then you have to pay 40$ once a year for their updates. The next best one is the Microsoft one, which is good but not in the same league yet as Spysweeper.

Things like using FireFox instead of Internet Explorer help stop most of the spyware as well.

Use VirusScan for antivirus, but I think the issue was not having a personnal firewall at home.

Since installing ZoneAlarm, realized a few critters were trying to access the web like iuuwa.exe, gudmhxr.exe and other unknown stuff.....

Will try Spysweeper, thanks

On my laptop I run; Zone alarm, AVG antivirus, Spybot search and destroy, adaware personnel, spyware blaster and have recently installed the microsoft beta spyware blocker. All free and easy to download and keep updated/maintain - so far have only had the odd trojen appear within java script zip files (and I have frequented some dodgy sites....)
I also have hijack this which I use to check up on things when I have a free hour to look up the report findings on the net.....

Another recommendation for SpySweeper here. Much better than Ad-aware, Spybot or any other. But best to have as many as you can though as some may slip though the net.

Why's that sad? I do hate this anti-MS thing that people have....

I'd be slightly more impressed if it was built into their OS, or even just in IE.

Well if it wasn't for the vulnerability in the host OS, none of this would be necessary.....

There are far superior products out there than MS stuff, but their marketing has to be admired.
