Do I have the slowest Broadband here?
Discussion
Just wondering if there are people with slower Broadband than I have..
Using http://www.speedtest.net/ for a comparison, Here are my results:

Sometimes it is slower than it is today, it is not often much quicker though.

Who’s your ISP? What service do you pay for?
BT, I believe they describe the speed as 'Up to 8mbs'
It isn't my router or a problem with the internal wiring, my neighbours suffer the same thing.
Any street cabs in your area, or you connected direct to the exchange?
https://availability.samknows.com/broadband/broadb... and Locality tab.
We're 2km from the exchange crow-fly, about 3km by wire, and connected directly to it. Our ADSL was up to about 3mbit before we got FTTP. But friends a bit further away from it get abysmal - we have friends closing on 5km straight-line, prob 6.5km by wire, and they can't get any ADSL at all. No mobile signal, either. Their only choices are dial-up (yes, in 2018) or satellite.

How far are you from the exchange?

You are approximately 3.48km from the exchange. Note that this is the straight line distance - the actual cable length will be longer.
Your location should be able to receive service of up to 2Mbps If possible, check with a phone number as these are far more accurate.
Google maps tells me I am 7.4km from my exchange by road.Your location should be able to receive service of up to 2Mbps If possible, check with a phone number as these are far more accurate.

But that's likely to be your base problem...

I am 4 miles to the nearest 'civilisation' which is a village. I haven't noticed any street cabs so i assume i am connected directly to the nearest exchange. But that's likely to be your base problem...
I guess i am 'winning' so far!

Got a decent mobile signal?

Yup, sounds like you're doing OK, all things considered...
Got a decent mobile signal?
I can get about 5mb with my phone when it picks up 4G which is most of the time.Got a decent mobile signal?
I tend to use that as a back up if the Broadband is really struggling but that really eats through my data, obviously.
A move back to England is on the cards, lets just hope the buyers of this place forget to ask about the Broadband!

My mother gets 0.5mb's. she has had 'engineers' out on several occasions and change to many isp's but the problem lays with the fact the cables are so old.
There was a scheme to put in fibre cables, they completed one side of hill and left the other (guess what side she lives).

That’s impressive as only BT Openreach engineers have a secure number that’s protected via a pin to access the info on actual line length, and even then, it’s not that accurate.Edited by TooMany2cvs on Sunday 26th August 16:11
In fact, thinking about it, I’m not even entirely sure it’s still in use any more as knowing line length is practically pointless nowadays anyway.

That's about the performance my mother had. Fortunately she is within the catchment area for https://www.vfast.co.uk and is now much happier (and slightly less frustrating to visit). There was a scheme to put in fibre cables, they completed one side of hill and left the other (guess what side she lives).
