Incredibly nerdy request for help with escape code
Discussion
Hello all again.
Our ERP system is causing a problem that requires us to come up with a workaround.
The objective is to be able to print out a delivery note twice, but one copy onto (a HP 4200n) one tray full of plain paper, and the other copy onto headed paper.
i.e. pg 1, 2, and then 3 on plain
then pg 1, 2, and then 3 onto headed.
I can control where a print goes in the ERP system via a PCL escape sequence, but I cannot find any information that tells me whether it is possible to instruct a printer in the one PCL escape sequence i.e. say print to tray 1 and then tray 2 (or similar).
If any of this makes sense then you'll know the mind numbing boringness of this task, but also the pressure by 'the management' to achieve what they see as a simple request
If you can help then I will buy you a (lot) of beer!!!

One small flaw in that tip
It's based on SCO Unix...(some might say thats a good thing!) so I'm talking pure PCL here - but the jist of Plotlosses idea is one I like but don't know how to achieve...

As you're tinkering with the data that's going to the printer anyway, the idea boils down to: what's to stop you taking a copy of the data, adding the paper bin code to it, sending it once and then adding a different bin code and sending again?
I think plotless is right. I don't think there is a sequence that will do first page here 2nd here and 3rd from there. I think its more choose a bin print the page choose the bin print the page. So the bin choosing is done in the data stream which I assume you can't get them to change (ERP supplier).
As you are on SCO and its an HPxxxn its probably on a jetdirect card or print server? Which probably means the ERP supplier specifies the printer in the software as a queue in SCO. They probably just pipe the I/O to the lp command. If so change it to pipe to your own lp script and modify / duplicate the data to your hearts content. Its not exactly easy though.
Your ERP supplier should be able to modify the print definition for the form to do what you want.
We do
( oh god its not us is it? ) what system is it?
Edited to add
Actually now I think about it it shouldn't be too difficult if you can get the system to send the data to your own lp command
