Hi guys,

The TV in our living room is mounted with a remote control motorised mount and a few months ago it started making a funny noise and stopped moving, but still made noises. As today is so miserable here and I couldn't do much else I got around to taking it apart. Turns out all that's wrong is a broken drive belt. The only problem is I can't find a replacement. I've emailed the manufacturer but as its a Saturday I'll probably have to wait for a reply so I thought Google would have the answer but no luck.

The belt it 2mm wide and a pitch of about 1.5mm and has 47 teeth. I don't know how accurate the pitch measurement is because the belt seems to have stretched a bit before snapping and the only calipers I've got at home is a plastic freebie I've had in the garage for years.

I can find find wider ones and different pitches but can't find what I need. To be honest I don't really know what to search for.

Any help would be great.

Cheers

They are called timing belts. I'll find a link where I buy mine from.

Edit - here you go

http://www.beltingonline.com/rubber-timing-belts-4...

You'll find them at RS online too.

You need to work out what you have i.e. 5mm HTD

Example, 141-3M 141 47 - that's a 3mm HTD with 47 teeth

A bit of more careful measuring and some research on teh different belt types and you'll find what you need.

Thanks for the reply. I've had a look and I can't find anything close. My luck it will be some custom made belt just for them.

I've tried taking some more measurements not just off the broken/stretched belt but I also ran the pulley along a piece of paper to measure the pitch from that and it comes out as 58mm for 40 teeth, so a pitch of 1.45mm. I've got no idea if thats a standard pitch or an imperial one when converted to inches. The teeth all seem triangular whereas all the ones I've found on various sites seem to be square, trapezoidal or rounded.

I've taken a picture to show it. Also in the picture is one of the pulleys, its got intermittent guides on it to retain the belt so the belt can't go much wider than 2mm.

They are all 2mm pitch and 3mm wide. It starting to look like my belts are a really wierd size. If the pH massive can't find anything I'll just have to hope the manufacturer can find some but I suspect its a case of 'no user serviceable parts inside'.

They won't make their own belts so they are out there somewhere.....

Are you sure it is 2mm wide as it looks wider to me. 2mm is really small, unless your handrwiting is tiny! :-)

I think the shadowing on the picture made it look wider but it is 2 mm.

Thanks for the link to the identification link, but they are all too wide and the smallest pitch is 2mm.

But as said I cant see Peerless AV creating their own special (and rubbish quality) belt just for this mount. What's the betting when I do find it I'll have to buy 10,000 from direct from a factory in China.

I had a reply from Peerless today, they said that the mount was discontinued a few years ago and that they no longer have any spares. They also said that they didn't make the mount themselves and it was outsourced. Unfortunately no-one who currently works there knows who the manufacturer was so I'm back to square one. I thought I'd give Peerless USA a try and the online chat guy couldn't help me, but I've also emailed the US customer service and hopefully the legendary US customer service will come through.

Hold the press!!! As i was writing this my phone just dinged and the US people have replied with bad news, they don't know who made it either. Bugger

Does anyone know of any robotic type suppliers or fourms I can try?

I have the same problem with my Peerless wall mounts. Did you ever source any timing belts for your?

Unfortunately no. I even had a saved search on ebay for a mount that I could use as a doner. One popped up a couple of months ago, still new in its box so I bought it. Set it all up, only to find the belts had gone week with age and stretched. I got it half working but it still isn't right. Ive tried a few times googling for an hour, but never get any where. If I ever do get some ill be stocking up! I can fix my original one as well then and have it in the garage.

Can't help with the belt problem but I'm intrigued about the use of the motorised mount.

What do you use it for? Beneficial compared to a static mount?

This is the one I've got. My TV is build in to my chimney breast (at a sensible height not too high!) and it means if your sitting in the corner of the roof it will remotely pivot round. Bit of a gimic over a manual pivot one, but still handy. Obviously only when the belts are complete and it works, lol.

Sorry for the thread resurrection.

I still never managed to find a replacement belt for this mount, I even set up a search alert on ebay for another bracket to use for parts, and one did come up last summer which I bought. While it was complete and new, the belts had aged the same as mine, and while they are complete, they seem a bit strectched and jump a bit in use so I've been avoiding using it.

The only possible advancement I have made is to buy a 3d printer. I had a few things that needed making so used a bit of man maths and bought a printer. I've ordered some flexible filament so was going to give making a belt a go. Only problem is, I cant draw CAD. My brother can, and when we have chance he's going to try teaching me. I jusf thought I'd ask on her in case someone is a belt drawing god or has somesort of template for one?

Could you change the pulleys to accommodate a wider belt, or covert the pulleys for a V Groove belt?

Or cut down a wider belt?

The pitch was a really wierd pitch, 1.45mm. I don't know whether that ends up as a standardish size in imperial land though. The pulley on the motor would probably easyish to replace, it's just a pulley, but the other end the belt goes to one side of the pulley and the other side is a gear that meshes with another pulley. I probably would be able to remake the pulleys to suit, that just still requires a bit of Cad drawing, so it may have to wait until Im up to speed.

Possible to find someone to do this for you? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eEtuK4DR1BU

Doh! Should have read that you just bought a 3d printer! Had a quick scour, if you're using Fusion 360, this could be a good video to get you started https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PyS34djcyw

Possibly more helpful for Fusion 360 is this: https://layershift.xyz/customgt2belt/
It should be customisable for Pitch,Teeth Number, Belt Thickness, Belt Height and Tooth Offset (tolerance compensation) so might give you a leg up on getting something printed.
