Robotic vacuum cleaners
Discussion
Anybody got a robotic Vacuum cleaner like the Eufy robovac? I have pondered getting one for a while but never considered if it can navigate into different rooms through doorways. It would be a waste of money if it can't. I picked one up cheap on Black Friday but I don't want to use it if it can't do what I want, the instructions make no reference to this.

I delayed buying one thinking much the same, then bought a Eufy in Amazon's Spring sale when they were under £200.
It's brilliant! A tenacious little thing, it gets over all the bumpy doorway joints between carpet, wood, and tile.
Thanks. Where have you positioned the base station? the instructions say it needs 1m either side & 2m in front. I won't have that as I want to put it under the stairs in the alcove. The latest 30C wifi connected model was £180 on Amazon last week so a good buy but not if it can't navigate doorways or dock in a smaller space. It's brilliant! I have a Dyson360.
It's pretty cool, but you have to make sure that you tidy the room for the vacuum. So no wires on the floor, no obvious large objects and other things it can get caught on.
It does a good job, far better than i would ever expect it to given that its a v1 product from Dyson. I schedule it to do a clean every 2 days whilst I work from home. I don't mind vacuuming at all, but it's nice to have downstairs always clean to a certain level.

Are these things robust/stable enough to survive an attack from the cat. Not meaning it gets damaged but that it keeps on track.
Could it also live under the sofa? I have some modern off the ground (6" or so) sofa's.
If you have a big enough gap that it can get in and out without getting stuck, or a small enough gap that it can't get in, you'll be fine. Six inches should be plenty. The problem arises if the gap under the sofa is barely enough for it to get in at one point and not quite enough for it to get out everywhere else. Then you end up having to rescue the dumb thing.Could it also live under the sofa? I have some modern off the ground (6" or so) sofa's.

We've got a Neato XV and wouldn't be without it now. If all of the doors downstairs are open it does all the rooms. Travels up / down a 1" step from carpet to kitchen lino just fine and recharges witself when it needs to.
We just go around the edges with a handheld from time to time.
Another Neato owner here - a BotVac 75.We just go around the edges with a handheld from time to time.
I think I was a fairly early adopter - it's been running round since September 18, 2015 according to my Amazon purchase history. I waited for an affordable one with a LIDAR so instead of randomly bumping about it maps out rooms, obstacles, etc.
I runs every day, and eventually wore out its silicone tyres so I moulded some new tyres and fitted them... I suppose that's one thing to look for - can you get spares? When they run every day they wear out!
It's had a replacement beater bar plus a beater bar bearing, some side brushes, tyres, and a new battery.
I wouldn't be without it - looking for another one for the bedrooms etc...
Bit nerdy...

Get a DJ Roomba of course.

Serious note - friend has a Dyson 360. It seems pretty great. Insanely pricey mind.

I have the robovac one and generally it's pretty good. Mine loses connection a lot and it's a pain in the arse to get it to connect again. It's more than likely my fault as it's quite a way from my router.
It moves its way around rooms quite well. It goes over the same bits a few times but that's not a problem and it mostly finds its way home OK unless it runs out of battery after getting stuck somewhere. It will detect edges and not go over them - if you take it upstairs it shouldn't fall down.
Glad I got mine, I just need to sort out my internet connection with it.

Neato XV, since 2015 as well.
When researching at that time, it was the best as it maps the rooms and cleans it logically, rather than bumping about the place at random.
It lives in our quite large kitchen, in the same room as our cats. If it wasnt for the Neato...I'm not so sure the cats would be here!
It has dealt with cat hair every single day for 3 years and held up well.
An excellent buy and not at the crazy Dyson "premium" price.

We have a Xiaomi Roborock and it's surprisingly good, particularly on carpets.
The only real issue it has is getting into the kitchen and bathroom, which have a ~2cm step in the doorway (tiles and heated floor). I'll pull finger and fit a threshold ramp/tread bar thing at some point, which will fix this.
Otherwise, the only drawback is that it tends to drag wires across the floor when it encounters them. Not a biggie, but it keeps pulling my wife's hair straighteners onto the floor.
Oh and the cat is terrified of it.

We've got a Eufy 11, which I've just spotted is on an Amazon lightinging deal today for the next 7 hours at £156.
It gets used a couple of times a week in one room at a time, mainly the kitchen diner & hallway and does a decent job of getting all the bits up from the hard floors, it only really missed the awkward corners where it's external brushes can't get into. On carpet it's good for a once over but for anything more substantial or the corners we still get Henry out.
Other than the corners, the only problem is that it will keep going even when the bin is full which ends up leaving trails of fluff if you forget to empty it...
Overall, it's definitely worth it - my missus was initially very sceptical of the random nature of its movements but has warmed to it and admitted last week that she now likes it. We named it Dirtbag and he lives under a chest of drawers in the hall.

Why is this white one £134, looks the same as the black one at £156.

I’ve had a roomba 650 for a few years now and it’s great. The girlfriend thought I was a moron for buying one at first, but within a few days she was singing Edgar (J Hoover)’s praises.
It does seem to have a thing for her underwear though. Every now and again I’ll come home and find it broken down having chewed up some it’s found under the bed.
