Will phone Blueyonder support tonight if necessary but am hoping to circumvent this.

Have recently just reformatted the hard disk on my main PC and reinstalled Windows XP. Now trying to set up my blueyonder broadband again.

Have got through the first stages on the setup disk, but you get to a page where it has a button to click called "Display MAC address". It then brings up the e:/ prompt in a separate window but not a whole lot else. When you get to the set frequency settings you get a blank web page and then when you finish the process it tells you there has been a problem.

Any thoughts on why I wouldn't have been getting a MAC address up and how to sort it?

Until yesterday I had my laptop connecting to the internet through the wireless router, but my main PC has been down for months.

To find your MAC address, open a command prompt (Start-->Run "cmd" and type ipconfig/all.

This will list all your network cards (presumably only the one!) and the "physical address" is the MAC address.

How have you got all this wired up?

Is the main PC connected to the broadband modem via USB and the wireless router connected tot the broadband modem via Ethernet?

I've disconnected the router altogether so it isn't coming into the equation.

PC connected to modem via USB. Modem connected to cable network via a cable. That's it.

Is there a separate install for USB modems as opposed to the "standard" BY setup which is via an ethernet card?

Yup, there are two options early doors in the install process, USB or network card.

Is the USB modem plugged into the correct socket? A friend of mine plugged his into the ethernet socket by mistake, and it wouldn't work...

Have you tried rebooting the Modem?? Unplug it from mains for 30 secs then plug back in, generally sorts it out.

Probably teaching to suck eggs an all though.

I wouldn't recommend using the USB port - my next door neighbour was, and his machine was bluescreening every few minutes - changed him over to the Ethernet port and it was fine and dandy.

It did work fine before through the USB. May try Ethernet though if that isn't helping. Still at work now mind you so can't see it getting fixed tonight in any case.

Hurrah, now working through the network cable.
