Tried to search around normal Firefox sites for help but it's like looking for a needle in a haystack using the search terms I need.

With IE it's very easy to save a webpage image by right clicking and saving it off and I can continue doing whatever I am doing whilst it save it. But with Firefox at the moment if I save the image it completely freezes Firefox until the image is downloaded. If I am searching for royalty free photo's to use as backgrounds or in layouts I can be waiting ages to download them all one at a time. Very frustrating, it only unfreezes Firefox (inlcuding all tabbed pages) when the "download has finished" popup appears.

I am wondering if it has anything to do with the trick to speed up Firefox by editing the about:config section which has been posted on here a few times.

Does anyone else have this or know how to make it save quicker?

Just a guess, but try :

Tools > Options> Downloads, try changing the location where you save to.

Almost certainly, since I haven't installed that hack and my Firefox doesn't behave like that, even if I'm running 3 or 4 downloads at the same time.

I can easily set two of the settings back to false, but what does your defualt "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" say the hack changes it to 30.

Then I'll do some testing

I changed the setting back, guessed at 15 for the max requests but it's still slow, changing where they download to doesn't do anything as I always have different dowload locations for different types of images (skys, landscapes, people, objects)

Any other thoughts?

There's a "downloads performance patch" on the mozilla website somewhere, give that a shot. I'm using 0.8.0 and while it's not a complete cure, it does make it a lot better.

Right problem solved. It's the downloads, they don't self clear from the downloads list after use. Under Tools/Downloads. Great.

Unless anyone knows if it can be set to clear, or have something that can clear it automatically (Firefox 1.0.4 here so older extensions may not work).

In Firefox 1.04 on a PC you might try:

Tools, Options, Privacy, Download Manager History and change the options there to see if it improves.

Brilliant. Can't think how I missed that. Thanks
