Just ask it to play your music and turn lights off and on - you know....the stuff it's supposed to do.

People getting it to tell jokes or answer daft questions are just highlighting they're on the same level as some Google tech assigned to a cupboard office coming up with things people might ask for.......instead of "turn off the lights"

Its up there with leading on cold callers.

I don't have an Alexa but surely asking it what 10 to the power of 500 is must be one of the most annoying things you can do.

install the 'Meow' skill

Endless fun watching your cat go crazy at the strange cat in the room smile

Though with some, they just ignore it.

If you’ve got kids then get her to tell them it’s bedtime. Otherwise play your music, turn your lights/ heating on/ off, remind you to do stuff. The normal basics

Was anyone else's Alexa particularly uncooperative yesterday?

We decided an extra couple of million units suddenly coming on stream had overloaded her servers or something.

Either way, not her finest hour by any standard.

Alexa, listen to my conversations and make sure any targeted adverts on other devices are more specific in future.

Yes. Both mine and a couple of relatives. There’s a few tweets out there complaining that people couldn’t get their new ones working. Ironically peak time was at 3pm when we all ought to be watching the queen
