My webspace was down this morning and when I told the host, they said 'The site was down for 5 minutes or so due to a script running on it. It's now been rebooted and is back up.'
I was a bit alarmed, as to me 'script' smells like 'virus', so I asked if it was anyhting to do with me and they replied: 'No, if the script had been uploaded to your hosting space, you would have received a warning to deactivate it. You have nothing to worry about.'
So where did it come from I wonder, and what was it doing in my space...?

The Cynic in me would say it was just an excuse they used when they had a network outage / server crash.
Its an easy thing to 'say'.
It could be a script was going mental on someones website and hogging all the CPU, resulting in the server being rebooted..
Unless you have any upload sections on your website, I cant see how it was your website itself, and how it 'suddenly' fixed itself.
Still, its not the end of the world, just not nice when a host tells porkie ;(
