Afternoon.

How does one go about splitting page numbers in a word document? I need to "number" my preamble etc using numerals and then start the page numbers proper on the first page of the first chapter. From my Word Perfect days i remember something to do with section breaks, is there such a thing in word?

When in word

Position the curser at the end of the line where you want the break.

You then click insert, click Break, from drop down menu select page break OK....

OK?

Hope this helps.

That just gives me a new page, same as ctrl+enter.

What i'm after is something that will allow me to start the auto page numbers from a page that isn't the first page of the document. I suspect it's somthing to do with the section breaks on the Break... menu.

Sorted, section breaks are what i was after. Set different footer for each section and done.
