Domain name ownership issue
Discussion
I have acquired and use a domain name that was previously owned by someone who never used it, streetcraft.co.uk. A guy I know had a program that watches for domains coming available through Nominet so he can register as soon as they come on the market.
Anyway, in error this guy didn't inform Noninet of the correct registrant name. i.e. me. This guy has now folded his business and I have lost contact with him. I have asked Nominet for help and they have tried to contact this guy to confirm my story.
They have had no success. Is there anything I can do to get the owner name changed?

Changing the Legal Owner (Name Change) is a PITA process with Nominet.
It requires both parties to send a letter / fax to nominet detailing the change, along with some paperwork which needs to be completed.
If the other party is willing to do this, then its not the end of the world.
If you contact nominet (or check their website) you should be able to get all the details of what you both need to do, in the mean time, you can have him transfer the domain control to you (ie give you the login details to the host where he has the domain, or, just transfer the domain elsewhere, that you control, and have him accept the transfer and get the IPS tag Changed.)
Check below for someone else in a similar situation.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaah
sorry ...
Erm, in that case, not much at all you can do, unless you can catagorically prove he bought it for you contractually..
Best case is just keep using it, and then when it comes up for renewal, if you can afford to be without it for a few weeks, simply let it expire and re-register it yourself.
for now, I would suggest you just transfer it away from where it is now, into a place ONLY you have control over.

Yup, they're a bunch of c
ts at Nominet.
Had a similar issue with my domain name, but as follows:
Had one company which originally bought/registered the domain name.
Closed down the said company and new company bought assets thereof. Thought, "Done and dusted". How naive!
Nominet, said that since the first company was no more that I should provide a solictors letter detailing the sale of the said DN or they would consider the DN to be the property of the crown, tw@ts!

Is this something that is easily available? There are acouple of domain names that I wouldn't mind getting hold of when they expire..... (they are currectly registered, but totally unused)

He was registered with Nominet so his account details and charges occurred automatically too. I recall the first he new about the registration was when he spotted the debit on his credit card.

The issue with this sort of program is the frequency at which it checks.
Too often, and nominet will ban his IP for abusing the service, not often enough, and he could miss it when it does come up for renewal whilst one of the x00 other companies who offer the same service grab it.
Its not a foolproof way to get the domains, but it is obvisouly better than nothing, jsut dont pay hundreds for the service as its in no way 100%
Enjoy
