Can anyone help me?

I'm a total techno biff and haven't a clue what's going on inside my magic box.

I've been using Azureus to download bit torrents for ages now. I've just set up my laptop on a LAN and now no torrents are coming through. Any ideas on how I need to set it up?

Azureus requires a number of ports to be opened to function, is it the case that since the switch to the LAN you are now behind a firewall where previously you were not?

Either way check that port 6969 is open for incomming traffic and as many as possible as the ports between 6881 - 6889 are open for outbound traffic.

cheers

Is there a Bittorent client that uses less memory? My system at home is fairly old/slow/short on RAM, and when Azureus runs, it makes it impossible to use ANY other program at all.

I've also used BitTornado, but it was ust as much of a memory hog. The help for Azureus suggests reducing the number of connections per torrent if you are short of memory, worth a try?

try a bit of software called g3, i used to use azureus all the time, but haven't used it for over a year.

You might try any of the following to see if they work better on your PC configuration:

www.bittorrent.com/
www.bitcomet.com/
www.bitlord.com/

and I'm sure there's more.

I found that after adding more memory to my PC Azureus ran better and didn't stifle the rest of the PC.

...and that the switch knows to forward that port to the laptops IP.

Thank you all for the suggestions and tips!

After messing with G3 for a bit, which was not performing that much better on my system, I tried BitComet.
It's a lot faster than the other two.

glad to hear you got it sorted. your next task is to find sites ate host the BT file, they are getting shut down all over the place.
those pesky yanks have even started shutting down the ones that just do TV shows. (cos you know how much money the networks loose when people record shows to watch later etc and ff through the ads)
