Two years ago I collected it from the shop and dropped it on my way out. They quoted £300 for a new screen so I didn't bother. Over time it has crazed and bits are falling off but it works fine.

Phone designers are daft, smothering a phone edge to edge, front and back in glass. I wish they still made decent spec phones with plastic backs like my old Galaxy Note and S2 had. Plastic is great, it's cheap, light, tough and light scratches in gloss plastic can be buffed out. My glass backed current phone lives in a thin and clear silicone case 24/7.

Apart from 1 scratch below the finger print reader, mine is in excellent condition. It is kept in a silicone case and a screen protector.

That would drive me utterly batty. I get an A grade from Cex for phones I've used for 2-3 years.

I'd be impressed if it functioned at all. That it functions perfectly just amazes me.

If you put it in an opaque rubber case and used one of those screen protectors with the black bits that cover the glass areas above and below the screen, the only damage you would see would be the cracks over the screen itself in the two corners.

Well I bought a gummy case on the day that failed to do its duty when I dropped the phone. It's okay, it will be replaced soon. I'm still just impressed with the amount of trauma the phone suffered and still works perfectly.

And wondered if anyone else had a similarly battered phone.

I ran a new Samsung over with a Winnebago

It was a bit buggered after that

Some silly sod had left it on top of a wheel

Hardly surprising, I think my dad said his Winnie weighs nearly 10 tonnes. Did it work at all because if not it's not valid for this thread laugh

I think it's a marvellous word, Susie Dent permitting or otherwise. 'Fricaseed'. Excellent.

I've never really broken a phone, I've long had the rubber cased things that could be dropped from a great height anyhow.

I remember way back when, about 1989 I think, we (we?) accidentally left one of the old Motorola 'bricks' on top of a Land Rover. The phone was found in a field the following day, not a mark on it and worked fine.

They certainly don't make 'em like that any more.

Never mind about that old boy, we managed without 'double S' for a good while.

After all, we didn't have a Jaguar 'XJSS' or a Capri '3.0SS' did we?

No, 'Fricaseed' is fine as it is, I'll submit it to the relevant authority for adjudication.

If they don't like it, fk 'em. We'll use it anyway.

My old iPhone had bits fallen off the screen but still worked where you could see the screen.

That feeling when you drop it face down and go to pick it up... eek

I have the opposite problem: in my Abandoned Gadget Drawer are two Sony Xperia phones, both cosmetically immaculate, both functionally f***ed.

Xperia SP got silly hot in my pocket on one occasion, turned itself off and never worked again.
Xperia Z3 Compact, which replaced the SP, has a completely non-responsive touchscreen.

I no longer buy Sony phones, much as I liked both of the above when they were working!
