I have bought a 4G signal booster - https://www.mobilesignalboosters.co.uk/product/pro...

I am struggling to see any improvement having put the aerial on the roof of my property and positioned the unit downstairs where the signal is far weaker. I wondered if anyone on PH had any experience of signal boosters?

Be careful with those kind of things. I put up some of them in warehouses (for work), turned out they are not legal and a hefty fine arrived...

ETA: Not saying that one specifically, but do some research!

If you live in an area with a rubbish signal these do not make much difference.

Femtocell which use your internet connection are a better option.

First I have heard of Femtocell - thanks. Just reading up on it now. Seems with O2 its for business use only and their wifi calling is stated as not working abroad (where the problem I have arises!).

Driving me insane that I can't find a solution! Added complexity is that the phone "switches" from O2 to the local network so even establishing the partner network for the country is not straight forward.

I'll let you know in a week. I've got one of these on the way:

https://www.mobilesignalboosters.co.uk/product/pro...

I use 3 and O2.

A mate installs this kit sometimes for offices and they work a treat - he owns a telecoms co. He buys the more expensive verisions that can handle 50 concurrent users but says these work just fine.

I have a Three femto but over half the time, when people try to call me they get unavalable tone. I can ring out no problem. Tried 2 boxes.

OP - you don know the one you linked is data only right?

And this is just the start of why I shouldn't be allowed around technology! No, I had no idea! I really am hopeless when it comes to tech but it might explain why there was no effect!

Be very interested to hear how you get on with that one you have linked to, please do update me. Well, as they say, every day is a school day..this one goes on ebay once I can repatriate it from the house abroad!

Op ,

You need a femtocell rather than that "booster"

The one you linked to doesnt appear to be legal BTW

Ofcom page here https://www.ofcom.org.uk/about-ofcom/latest/featur... , explains whats legal and what isnt
at 4G 800Mhz isn't ( as Boosters must boost 2G/3G )

Boosting more than one carrier from a single booster isnt allowed either - so some of the claims on that site look suspect as well

Update. I boought the wrong booster. I bought the "O2", "Three UK" "4g" box.

It worked perfectly. O2 was superb, Three UK 4g was superb - data only.....

Seems Three UK onlly do voice over 4g if your phone supports "Supervoice" / VoLTE. Mine doesn't as it is contract free/sim free.

So they swapped my 900/1800 (4g) box with a 900/2100 box. (3g). I assumed "Why not have 4g if you can?" and didn't know that this was not enough to make Three voice work.

I could of had a tri band box to cover all bases but all I want is to boost Three (from zero signal) and perhaps boost O2 (giffgaff) too.

Now I have a good Three UK and GiffGaff signal. Works perfectly.

Good support too. Defo not 24/7 but live chat got things moving quickly when I realised I'd bought the wrong box!
