I have done the files and settings transfer thing in Xp and have a file that is called usmt2.unc saved on partition D on my hardrive.

All fine and dandy. So I use the system restore disks from Toshiba to reformat and 'ghost' the c drive.

Again all fine and dandy until I try to transfer the files and settings back from the saved image.

Although I can see the file on the drive, the Wizard says there is no info there, despite it clearly is.

Is it because the bloody wizard is having today off, or have I lost all that info. BTW, the original c drive was using ntfs.

Have you checked the status of D in computer management?. Are there other files in D that you can access?.

All the other files seem perfect. I moved a lot of them there just in case, but like a muppet I did'nt back up a load of emails and relied on XP.

I have also tried to use a transfer file from last year that worked just fine then, but not now.

Anyone got Bill G's home number? I'm sure he would be only too happy to help me out on a sunday night. NOT.

If you made the file after a service pack, try applying the service pack, then restoring.

I seem to remember something like this pre and post SP2

It says:

The location that you specified does not contain stored information.

If you entered a path to a folde on a removeable disk, the disk must be in the drive.

Thats really helpful, innit?
