I'm using Outlook Express 6 on XP and have been using McAfee anti-virus and firewall for the past 18 months with no problems.

Recently another McAfee update downloaded itself onto my computer which started scanning outgoing e-mails and showing me a box to indicate progress with each outgoing e-mail. Since that time, about 3 weeks ago, e-mails are sent but remain in my outbox until I remove them. They no longer go into my sent box automatically which is a real pain. I have no record of the e-mails I've sent and am constantly resending e-mails that I forget to delete from my outbox.

The McAfee update may just be a coincidence....

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Try disabling McAffee and see if the problem goes away. If it does, try seeing if you can set the McAffee to allow outgoing traffic on port 23.
If it doesn't, try pegasus mail or the mail client in another browser like Opera. If that works, consider importing your mail from Outaluck Excess and ditching it...

All McAfee stuff disabled, still does it...

It's now re-enabled.

It's probably time I started using Outlook anyway. McAfee's tech support sucks, whether this is their induced problem or not. I'll try MS 2moro but thanks anyway.

Done it! My sent box was rather full so having deleted several hundred sent e-mails it's now working again. Sorry for wasting anyone's time!

Sorry McAfee, all is forgiven but your non-contact support still sucks...

MacAffee is a performance and resource hog anyway. Better off with the latest free version of AVG antivirus IMO.
