Well and truly pi$$ed off with my Epson Colour Stylus 680. Every time I need to print something it seems to run out of ink, or starts missing bits, or prints pages and pages of gabbledegook. I've a good mind to pack up the now broken pieces and send it to Epson!

Anyone recommend a good colour printer which will be reliable and whose cartridges won't cost 20 odd quid a shot?

I've got an Epson R300 which for the money does a good job and has been reliable with it.

same here, although I get the set of 6 inks from a bloke just up the road for £30. Genuine units as well.

I tend to say Canon or Hewlett Packard. Epsons are shite for clogging and the like.

I use the Inkrite sets, £15 for a whole set and as good as the originals ones. Get them from Ebuyer

Strangely, that's the experience I have with HP & Canon over the Epsons albeit for the mid-range. Although I haven't tried a recent HP or Canon machine after my problems with them many years ago.

Currently have an 6 year old Stylus 3000 (an A2 printer which gets its ink from 500ml ink tanks or the normal cartridges), and a Stylus Pro 950 for the draft stuff.

Neither were low-end and neither do anything other than print - no scanner, fax, coffee machine attachment.

I also have a separate scanner (Perfection 3170) which has performed flawlessly as well.

I always have spare inks read as I can't guarantee that when I am about to run out I will be able to get my inks quickly. You can also buy head cleaning cartridges to clear blockages if you get any (normal head cleaning function works for me though).

They may not be so bad if you use them a lot every day, but they definitely don't like intermittent use. They get to the point where even aggressive cleaning measures like forcing solvent through the head with some external source of pressure won't clear them. Hewlett Packard get around the problem by having a replaceable nozzle assembly as part of the cartridge.
