Help Please. I know nothing about printers and need to buy one. Its for home use, mainly colour photos and B&W documents. My criteria is:

- Budget up to £300
- Want the best possible colour photo quality
- Would like printer/scanner/copier all-in-one provided there's no compromise on photo quality.

I looked at the Epson R800 but was told that it does not use dye inks and so the photo quality was not as good as something such as the Epson RX620 which does use dye inks.

Any recommendations greatly appreciated

Thanks for the link. These are A3 printers though. Any recommendations for A4 printers please?

There's this thread here|www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=181646&f=95&h=0|www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=181646&f=95&h=0

Personally I'd go for an R800. The pigment inks are supposedly an improvement over dye inks as they are much longer lasting. The gloss "ink" in the printer fills in any gaps where there isn't any ink sitting on top of the photo as I understand it. Review here

Oh, and edited to add that any printer that you buy with scanner, fax, etc. built in will *always* be a compromise. People who want the optimum photo quality will generally have a separate scanner.

I called the technical helpline at Epson this morning and the chap that I spoke to said that for printing photos, pigment inks would last longer but dye inks would produce more vibrant colours. Any thoughts?
