Hi.

Can someone recommend me a printer/ scanner etc that is cheap on refills.

I’m feed up feeling that I’m being ripped of paying for branded ink because I have to.
Thanks for any replies.

Regards.

Dave.

Me too, I use the local library now as cheap as chips and no hassle. . . .But Aldi got a canon at moment for £29 and they are all about the same price to run unless you buy a laser

Who me ?

Go check on printers and then look on here
http://rapidresolutions.co.uk
to find what ink is cheapest. And this bloke is no quibble on problem cartridges.
For printers I'd recommend my Epson WF2010 -bit pricy( at circa £60) as printers go ,but it's fast for normal prints ,but not slow and excellent quality on photo. But I suspect it's old hat these days. Argos seem to be offering a fair selection and if you take their warranty, there's no quibble if it fails using non OEM ink.Something the makers get hot on.

I just bought a HP Deskjet 2630, it’s an all-in-one under 30 quid. You can get 3rd party refills under a tenner or subscribe to HPs instant ink. All depends on how much printing you do.

I bought one of these about 2 weeks ago:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01M06KK9D/

and some cheap ink as well:

Seems okay so far for what I use it for (which is not a lot, but that's all I want).

Before you buy a printer, check the prices of the ink cartridges and ensure that you buy a model where you can replace the black and each colour cartridge separately. Lots of manufacturer models use a single cartridge for all, meaning that as soon as you run out of one colour, you need to replace the whole thing - which is wasteful and expensive.

I recommend Canon for reliability and the fact that many of their models use separate cartridges. The print quality is very good too.

Indeed. The one I bought above, you can replace the colours separately. But my previous printer (also a Canon) was like you say, so one for black and one for all colours.

Just love it when the printer NEW is £59.99 or one USED for £67.75. Just don't understand ads like that.

And even more stupid is the option to buy the printer (new) plus OEM ink for £129.95, i.e. £70 for the ink. But you can get that for £35. So that's a huge bargain !

What do you use the printer for and how often?

I got fed up of inkjet printers gumming up if not used and ink running out if it was used so I went for a Brother laser printer. Pattern toner cartridges aren't that expensive considering how long they last and there's no problem if it's not used for a while.

I went for an all singing MFD colour device. You wouldn't print photos for a frame but it's fine for pictures in homework and the like.

Unless I really needed to print photos on glossy paper there's no way I'd go back to ink. There's plenty of places to print photos anyway both online and elsewhere for the odd print I want.

Same here (except i went for a wireless OKI printer)
Unless you want to print photo-quality prints a laser is ideal - cheaper to run, no wastage, no cleaning, faster for multiple prints, etc

Think mine was £70 including a starter ink pack. Replacement inks are around £30 for four pattern cartridges on eBay and they last for something like 1000 prints.

Ive been very happy with my canon inkjet, which I run from genuine cartridges via ebay, because ive had far to many issue with blocked heads using cheap refill ink.

Wasnt the cheapest model but must be 12 yo now and used plenty in the time. Epson inkjet before it (like 20 year ago) was also great.

Mine is has five cartridges, two blacks (die based for photo, pigment based for text) which gives much faster crisper text printing and means the ink lasts ages compared to cheaper printers as most cheap inkjets squirt out all four colours to get good text unless in eco mode. Cheap printers also often ship with only half full ink cartridges.

If you are doing a lot of printing, I would be tempted to look at second hand colour lasers as they are often not expensive. The toner costs real money but lasts almost forever.

I'm running a ten year old Canon all in one (MP600) as well, I've not had any problems with buying cheap, full sets of ink cartridges off ebay for about £6. It doesn't clog or anything and the print quality seems as good as when it was new.

Fair enough, can't fault that. Mines a iP4000 with the internal duplexer.
I last paid £12 for a set of CMY genuine cartridges and £8 for a pair of the blacks. Given that lasts me a year I'm happy.

Same here. 5p per sheet and zero issues with ink or connections etc... made my life much more simple for the odd occasion I need to print (normally faster to drive to the library, print what you need to and get home than faff with a rarely used home printer).
