Streaming music
Discussion
Hi
I've several amazon dots throughout the house and a sonus or two. The dots are in the kids bedrooms and the sonus downstairs. I would like to get a music streaming subscription but unsure of what one to go for and do I need the family option or a single option? I'm assuming a single sub will mean I can only play one song on either of the devises while a family option will mean I can play 5 different songs on the various devices - it that right?
The dots each have the kids name on my app if that makes any difference.
Thanks

For the Amazon devices you can only use one account from one service at a time. This means all devices must play the same song at the same time (you can link them together to do so), and when you try and play another song on another device it will stop playing on the first device. You would need multiple music services (say Amazon Music and Spotify) to get them to play different songs at the same time, choosing the service when playing the song, e.g., Echo, play Black Sabbath from Spotify.
I am not familiar with Sonos so I do not know how it will work with those.
Spotify works well with Amazon, you can control it via the Spotify app (far better than the Amazon music app) or via voice commands. You will not need the family subscription to use it with your Amazon devices, just the standard premium account (it won't work with the free Spotify account).

Spotify family gives you five separate entities who can all play individuals music choice at the same time.
You just need to make sure each echo is setup for each individual, rather than just logging into all of them with a single Amazon account.
Costs us about fifteen quid a month, saves loads of fighting and messing about.

The limitation is not Spotify, it is the Amazon account. Every Amazon device must be tied to an Amazon account, and every Amazon account can only have one Spotify, one Amazon Music, etc. account tied to it. You can have one Spotify AND one Amazon, but not two Spotify accounts.
If you setup each Amazon device with seperate Amazon accounts it would work, but that will be a PITA if you are using the devices for anything other than Music as they won't function as a single household, all your smart home stuff, multi room audio, device proximity activation, etc. won't work without extra work or at all.

Can the echo not just be used as a Spotify connect target. It means each person needs to use a phone with their own Spotify account rather than asking Alexa to play.
Personally I use the Google equivalents which work in a slightly different, possibly better way. All of my devices have all of my families accounts setup on them and uses voice match to use the appropriate account. If the voice isn't matched (I.e. it's either someone else or the odd occasions it doesn't recognise your voice) then the first account added on that device is used.

Apologies, I didn't know this, we only have one echo at home.If you setup each Amazon device with seperate Amazon accounts it would work, but that will be a PITA if you are using the devices for anything other than Music as they won't function as a single household, all your smart home stuff, multi room audio, device proximity activation, etc. won't work without extra work or at all.
The Echos/Dots are all on the same account, and can only use a single Soptify or Amazon music account.
However, you can play different songs on different devices at the same time using Amazon Unlimited (Family) account.
We create playlists so Dad's playlist, Child 1's Playlist, Mums playlist etc. It's not idea as it doesn't learn your style and make recommendations but right now there is no alternative option on the Alexa devices.
