Hello,

I have an Outlook / network problem that has me stumped.

I can view my web site (www.giggleandwiggle.com) via either my telephone, my laptop using the phone as a hotspot or my home wifi. However using the wifi at the office the connection times out. This is the case on more than one laptop.

Similarly outlook won't connect to the mail server (same domain) whilst on the wifi at work or wifi (different provider) at my business partner's home.

I have tried changing the DNS settings to point to a different DNS server and clearing browser cache, beyond this I am stumped.

Any one able to help? Free visit to giggleandwiggle to the person who solves it!

Needs more information.

Who provides the internet connection at your work and at your business partner's home? Can your business partner access just the website (not the mail server)?
Is your work internet connection content filtered and firewalled to prevent unauthorised access to non-work related websites and systems? Quite a few internet providers will now block access for email to uncommon email providers (e.g. those other than gmail and office365) in order to prevent spam relays sprouting up.

The SMTP server for giigleandwiggle.com takes a fairly long time to respond (about 15 seconds) for outbound mail connections but imap and pop3 both respond fairly quickly.

Do the office networks ban Facebook/twitter?
Potentially, as mentioned above, that a firewall on these networks have detected the links on your page, and blocked it.

XLN and BT work and home respectively. Neither the website or mail server can be accessed.

No filtering at work, just the XLN supplied router which should be direct to the web.

The lack of ability to see the website or the mail server makes me think it is an ISP level problem especially given the same devices can access the site from my home (Vodafone) broadband and over 4G

No, it is not an office it is a kids soft play area, the main purpose of the network is for mummies to surf whilst their kids play, meaning blocking Facebook would be a disaster!

This is the key sounds very much like a DNS issue

Ping gives 'request timed out'

I have already tried changing the TCPIP settings to use a different DNS, is there some other setting I should be changing?

What output do you get from the command traceroute www.giggleandwiggle.com?

This may show where the connection is failing.

What IP address does that ping resolve to, time out suggests it is at least resolving somewhere

How do you find out? is there an extension to the ping command to make it verbose?

Should already be part of the output:

tracert and ping outputs as follows.

Ping resolves to the same address as when I try it from my working connection. Tracert seems to time out twice.

XLN seems to be an OpenReach (BT) reseller so both are possibly using the same infrastructure.

It could be that OpenReach have an incorrect routing so simply don't know how to reach your site. These normally resolve in a couple of days as the routes are re-learnt however you might need to contact XLN or BT support to ask them to check the routing.

Your tracert gets to the hosting company - www.ukdedicated.com - before the time out (which should be server20.simplewebserver.co.uk) - so it might be an issue with UK Dedicateds routing (there is a good chance you are reaching your server but the reply is being sent down the wrong routing) - I would start be contacting UK Dedicated network support

These are the results from a BT Fibre connection. I'd raise a ticket with your hosting company to see if there's any filtering / blocking going on for traffic from you or other network ranges.

Also worth checking with your server host, could be some DDOS protection or similar has blocked your IP address.
